New Features in Android P Beta Version

Android "P" is the upcoming ninth major version of the Android operating system. Android P is a big upgrade from 8.0 Oreo. First announced by Google on March 7, 2018 with release of the first developer preview. The second preview, considered beta quality, was released on May 8, 2018. And third preview, called Beta 2, was released on June 6, 2018. Let's check out the features included so far.

Navigation Gestures
For the first time Google's heavily relying on gestures for navigating the UI, and in their current form, they work as follows:
  • Tap the Home button/pill to go home
  • Swipe up to access the recent apps page
  • Swipe up twice or do a long swipe for the app drawer
  • The Back button only appears in certain apps/menus when it's needed.
Colorful UI
Between the new gestures and updated animation it's getting colorful icons in Settings, circular Quick Settings icons, and rounded corners.
App Actions and AI Predictions
Google is using machine learning to try to predict what users want all over Android. Within the new horizontal multitasking page, Android P will try to guess which app you want next. The new App actions feature goes one stage further, attempting to predict the task you are trying to perform, showing a shortcut to take you straight to the section of a particular app that deals with it.

Adaptive Brightness and Battery
Adaptive Battery learns an individual’s usage patterns and directs the power to only the apps you need at the time you need them for more predictable day-to-day battery life.
Automatic brightness adjustment using an ambient light sensor has been built into Android for years. Now Google is integrating AI into the feature so that it will actually learn from your manual adjustments to automatically tailor screen brightness to levels better suited to the individual user.

Smart Replies on Notifications
With Android P, you will no longer have to think or write anything back to the dozens of silly messages you get – just tap a button and be done with it.

Notch support and Time on Left
Displays with so-called “notches” are quickly becoming common, with several smartphones available with the cutouts at the top housing front-facing cameras, sensors and speakers. Android P will introduce full support for notches optimising how content, notifications and status icons are shown around them.
One of the smallest but most noticeable changes is the shifting of the clock to the left from the right. The left used to show the mobile network signal quality and notifications from apps. But now the time is in the left corner and the signal meter has been moved to the right side.

Enhanced Privacy
Google is revamping the way Android handles background apps to better protect user privacy. Apps given permission for location, the microphone, camera and network status will no longer be able to access them when idle in the background. Avoiding rogue apps from spying and to prolong battery life and performance.
Other Features
In addition to the big changes found in Android P, there are a ton of smaller elements also scattered throughout the update. Some noticeable features include:
  • Built-in screenshot editor
  • Zoom pop-up when highlighting text
  • Changing the volume now defaults to your media volume
  • Volume controls appear on the right of your screen instead of the top
  • Do Not Disturb is more customizable and easier to understand
  • A ton of new emojis exactly 157 of them.

New Android 8.0 Oreo™

Features:

  • Get started on your favorite tasks more quickly with 2x the boot speed when powering up boot time as measured on Google Pixel. Android Oreo helps minimize background activity in the apps you use least, it's the super power you can't even see.
  • With your permission, Autofill remembers your logins to get you into your favorite apps at supersonic speed.
  • Allows you to see two apps at once, it's like having super strength and laser vision.
  • Press the notification dots to quickly see what's new, and easily clear them by swiping away.
  • Teleport directly into new apps right from your browser, no installation needed.
  • Shares the feel with a fully redesigned emoji set, including over 60 new emoji.

Other Features:

 Accessibility button
Allows you to quickly access from the navigation bar accessibility features, like magnification, and functionality within accessibility services, like Select to Speak.
Accessibility services can optimize the audio experience for users with disabilities.
Developers can now provide a full-bleed square shaped icon and OEMs will mask the icon to ensure intra-device consistency.
Highlights the incoming notification with larger font, highlighted app name and immediate access to actions.
Background execution limits
More control over how apps run in the background for better overall system performance.
Limits the frequency of location updates in the background for better overall system health.
Enables applications to render richer visual content with more vibrant colors and subtler gradients. Supports full color management which allows applications to render images in the format and quality they were intended.
Applications no longer need to bundle custom fonts, which helps reduce their size.

Mobile and tablet internet usage exceeds desktop for first time worldwide - StatCounter

They say it’s one of the saddest moments in a person’s life when their child can beat them at a game for the first time, and the desktop computer just had its own electronic version of that distressing experience. October 2016 was the month smartphones and tablet web browsing finally took the lead: 51.3% to 48.7%.

“This should be a wake up call especially for small businesses, sole traders and professionals to make sure that their websites are mobile friendly. Many older websites are not,” commented Aodhan Cullen, CEO, StatCounter.

“Mobile compatibility is increasingly important not just because of growing traffic but because Google favours mobile friendly websites for its mobile search results.” He pointed out that Google recently launched a tool where businesses can test their website mobile performance.

StatCounter’s core business is to provide companies, agencies, bloggers, self-employed and charities with data to measure activity on their website, blog or forum. Key features include a free option, ease of use, independence and ability to view individual visitors in real time.

Pixel: A Google Smartphone

Pixel is the latest addition to the Google's Smartphone List. There are actually two Pixels: the regular 5-inch screen version and a larger 5.5-inch version called the Pixel XL. They are identical in every respect except for the size of their batteries, the resolution of their screens, and, of course, their prices: the spectrum ranges from $649 for a 32GB Pixel and goes all the way up to $869 for a 128GB Pixel XL.

For past few years Google had Nexus Phones, now they have moved to the Pixel which is manufactured by HTC but designed by Google to compete at the top tier, so it's priced to match the iPhone and the Galaxy S7.
Pixel kind of looks like an iPhone. Every high-end phone these days is designed with some combination of metal and glass. The biggest design element is the glass shade that replaces the metal on the top third of the back of the phone.Google puts the fingerprint sensor on the back.It fast charges via USB-C and there's only one speaker — at the bottom. Luckily, it's a pretty loud, decent speaker and there is, of course, a headphone jack on the top.
Both Pixel variants have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor, 4 gigs of RAM, and flat-out gorgeous OLED screens with deep blacks and vibrant, punchy colors. The Pixels are fast — noticeably faster than Samsung's Galaxy S7. On performance alone, these are easily the best Android phones you can buy.
Pixel's Battery lasts a couple of hours longer than comparably sized iPhones or Nexuses. The camera on the back is 12.3 megapixels with an f2.0 lens and two ways to focus: phase detect and laser auto focus. It has a two-tone flash, too, but unfortunately no optical image stabilization.

Android update for Nougat is 7.1 Build NDE63B

Google released the stable version of its latest operating system not long ago and rumors on the upcoming version have already surfaced. Android 7.0 Nougat didn’t come with some of the most anticipated features, like the Nexus Launcher and Google Assistant. A new leak seems to suggest that the upcoming Nougat update will be named Android 7.1 build NDE63B.

Google's Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones will most likely release the NDE63B build carrying the Android 7.1 Nougat update Since rumors say that the Pixel and Pixel XL are set to be unveiled on October 4, it’s highly likely that factory images and release updates will be provided around the same date, but only to some Nexus smartphones. Owners of other brands of phones would have to wait until developers adjust the new OS version and make it available to them, and this could take up to a few months.
Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones are certainly exciting, especially since the devices are said to come with Sony-branded front and back shooters. Pixel XL should feature a Sony IMX378 sensor on the back, the same as on the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X. Front camera capacity could reach 8MP with Sony IMX179 sensor, found on the rear camera of the Nexus 5 from 2013.

What is Pokemon Go exactly?

Pokémon is a Nintendo franchise that launched in the 1990s. In its world, "trainers" travel the world to catch varied monsters called Pokémon — rats, dragons, swordlike creatures, and more — and use these critters to fight each other. The trainer’s goal is to "catch ’em all," as the franchise’s slogan suggests, and become a Pokémon master by defeating prestigious trainers known as gym leaders and Elite Four.

So what is Pokémon Go? Unlike previous Pokémon games, it’s not for Nintendo’s handheld consoles; it’s a free download for Android and iOS devices. It also doesn’t play at all like previous Pokémon games: Although the goal is still to catch ’em all, Pokémon Go is an augmented reality game — it mixes real-world elements with the game.

The big thing is Pokémon Go uses your phone’s GPS and clock to decide which Pokémon appear in the game. If you’re at the park bug and grass types appear. If you’re by a lake, more water types appear. If it’s night, more nocturnal ghost and fairy types do. So Pokémon won’t just come to you; players have to traverse the real world to catch ’em all.

So why is the game so popular?

Because it’s the first successful big augmented reality game. It’s also exciting because it's free, making it easy to pick up. And it taps into nostalgia for those who played Pokémon in the ’90s. You may be wondering why did i share this, oh you don't know i'm a Pokémon fan too. And you don't know about Pokémon Go.

Iranian Hackers can hack your Gmail Account

Yes, Iranian hackers have now discovered a new way to fool Gmail's tight security system by bypassing its two-step verification – a security process that requires a security code (generally sent via SMS) along with the password in order to log into Gmail account.

Here's How the Attack Works

Via Text Messages:
In some cases, the hackers use text messages and send it to their targets. The message appears to come from Google, which warns users of an unauthorized attempt to access their Gmail accounts.

The text message then follows a carefully crafted email notification, also disguised to be from Google, that redirects victims to a "Password Reset Page," designed to collect the victim's password.

The hackers then, in real time, use the password to login to the victim's account and trigger the sending of a security code to the target.

Gmail uses this security code as a two-factor authentication that adds an extra layer of security on top of a Gmail user's password.

After this, the hackers wait for the targeted victim to enter the code and then collect it through the bogus website, and then use it to take control of the victim's Gmail account.

Via Phone Call:
In other cases, the hackers contact a target over the phone regarding some fake business proposals that usually promises thousands of dollars.

The fake proposal is then send to the victim's Gmail account containing a fake Google Drive link that would prompt a victim to login with the Google credentials as well as the two-factor identification code, just like in the case of the text messages.

The users fell for the phishing attacks, as some hackers pretend to be Reuters journalists who wanted to arrange an interview.
